What is values or how do you define your value? Well according to Wikipedia, "Types of values include ethical/moral values, doctrinal/ideological (political, religious) values, social values, and aesthetic values." Most of our personal values are developed in an early age but may change overtime due to our own situations we face in our lives. What we did in class was we had to choose the top five values in ranking from 1 to 5 (5 being the lowest). For me I put family as being first because to me family is the most important thing in your life. They are always going to be big part of your life and they are always there for you. My second choice was friends because to me they are a big part of my life. Your friends are they ones you hang out with most or ask for advice. Third, I picked love, to me love is not as important right now because in high school you already have so much to think about such as grades, classes and homework. However, love will be important later on in life when in college or after college. Fourth, is trust because I believe that sometimes we tend to let our guards down easily and is easy to expect the goodness in everyone. Therefore, making it easy to trust people but trust is very important in life like when comes to love. Last, I pick happiness because if you have all other top 4 in your life then i'm sure you are already pretty happy with your life. Even though we might have hard times and bumps on the road later on. To me happiness goes in with family because in life everyone just wants to happy weather is love, friendship, money or etc that makes them happy. Not everyone would feel or choose the same thing as me because we all have different values.

Learning Styles

There are many different types of learning styles but the three most common are auditory, kinaesthetic and visual. An auditory learner means you learn best from listening to others. Kinaesthetic is when you learn best with hands on like you have to do something with your hands or body to learn it better for you. If your visual means you learn best when watching someone show you how to do it.You may be more than one of these or other type of learning style. I didn't know my learning style till we did the class activity where we looked at this paper and rank these questions. What I end up with was I'm a auditory/kinaesthetic learner. However sometimes I feel like I'm a visual learner in math because for me it is easier to understand when the teacher show me how to work out the problem rather listening. You can have different learning style according to maybe the situations in life weather is in cooking, history or math. You might not even feel like these 3 learning style are your best but during sometimes in your life or day you might feel one works better than other.

Individuality

Sexual Orientation

As we grow older our body goes through many changes and one of them is sexual feelings. It can be very confusing time for some people to understand their bodies. You may feel attracted to the sex same, opposite sex or both. These are called homosexual, heterosexual and bisexual. When an male is attracted to the same sex (male) they are often called gay and when an female is attracted to another female, she is often called lesbian. When an guy or girl finds out that their either gay or lesbian they are usually ashamed or scared. They are ashamed because some people in this world finds that it is an sin to like the same sex. Most of this is due to the Church or religious person. Therefore it is very hard for them to come out and tell to their love and close ones. Most people find that it is an choice to choose which sex you attracted to but this is not true because researchers found that it is in you gene and sometimes you can't do anything about it or deny it because you are made that way.

Media influences
babywithgun.jpg
babywithgun.jpg

We don't often think about how the media influences our life and the way we think but they do greatly. Most stereotype comes from the media by the way they portrait people of men and women. For example you take a blond girl, most people would think they are dumb because on TV they are portrait blond girls as being dumb but pretty and also they use barbie as a figure of how girls should look like. The media sets an imagine for everyone such as how a girl and guy should look like. The girls you see on TV usually would look pretty, skinny and sexual looking. As we watch the video in class called, "killing us softly," they said, "girls/women are treated or portrait as mere sex object." For guys they are portrait as this tough skin guy with tough look, attitude and muscular. We in American almost every household has an television and just think of how many people watch these images that the media are trying to feed to women and men. Often young girls and boys try to become this image at an very early age. It was very scary when I watch the video "tough guise," in class and found out these percentages about crime done by men: 85% murder are by men, 90% assault, 95% domestic violence, 95% dating violence, 95% child sexual abuse and 98% in jail are from rape. Most of these percentages are due to media influences.

Health

Stress

Stress is define as anything that requires allostais and allostais means stability achieved through change. Sometimes stress can be good or bad to the brain. Stress is necessary for living with stress requires allostais. Stress can help yourself to push in school work, making your brain scared that way it makes you do work rather lazy.

stress response and its consequences
  • mobilization of energy ---->Diabetes, high cholesterol, syndrome
  • increased cardiovascular ------>hypertension, chronic inflammation
  • suppression of digestion------> digestive disorder
  • suppression of reproduction-----> infertility, loss of libido

Sleep

We american get about 5-6 hours average of sleep. Reasearchers found that we need an average of 8-9 hours of sleep. Most people are so busy with their life that they don't have time to get the right amour of sleep. Lack of sleep can cause sickness, depression, stunned grow, mood swings and etc. Lack of sleep can also causes serious health problems. After just one day lack of sleep you can have short term memory or having trouble remembring things. You can gain weight for not sleeping enough and miss out on classes. Some health issues cause by lack of sleep are obesity, heart disease, high blood-pressure and stroke. There are four phases you go through when you sleep, start with light sleep to deep sleep to dream sleep then back to light sleep. Did you know that lack of sleep causes lack of sex?

Substances abuse

Addiction

To me when I think of addiction the first thing come to my mind is drugs. Almost everyone who try drugs 1st time they get addicted right away. I believe that an addiction is when you have no self aware of how much does you taking or how much you do the same thing over and over again. It is something that you can't live without and have to have it. There are many addictions such as drugs, alcohol, sex, TV, internet, text, food, money and many more but the most common one is drugs. Drugs are so addictive because they have nicotine in it which makes people get addictive to it. Lots people take drugs because it relax them and the "high" they get from it. Addiction to drugs is very bad because it can cause serious health issues and cause crime such as people try to get money to buy drugs. They would sell their own personal stuff or even do crim to get the money to buy drugs.

Alcohol

Alcohol is one of the biggest problem with teens because most car crash are cause by teens or at least show on TV. Alcohol can be additive also just same with drugs. It is said 40% death are cause by alcohol, it can also be gentics. Once you drink alcohol is takes about an hour to take effect. Alcohol can cause blurry versions, bleeding throat, weird heartbeat and liver issues. When you go to a party and you know your the driver you probably shouldn't drink and make sure that your friends also know that your not drink tonight because you can get into an car crash. You can blackout from drinking too much and sometimes people get rape because they don't remember what happen the night before. Most people would also try to slip something into your drink to knock you out.

Sexuality
HIV/AIDS

HIV is an virus that you can be stuck with you for the rest of your life and it takes about 10-12 year until it becomes AID. You can get HIV from unproteced sex like without using an condom. There are also other ways you can get HIV such as from blood, breast milk, semen, viaginal fluid. If you share needles you can get HIV also because you are sharing blood. Some ways you can prevent HIV is use condom when having sex, don't share needles, or use new needle each time you use it and other way is you can sterilize it by using bleach and water. The way you can do is first put in water for 30 seconds and tap the needle then put in bleach and tap for another 30 second next put in water again, bleach and water all for 30 seconds and taping at the same time. There are other ways to prevent HIV such as abstinence, condom/barriers, get tested and stay with one sexual partner, these would make you have less chance of getting HIV.

Should I or Shouldn't I?

Should you or should you not have sex? Well this is all depended on your choice, if you choose to have sex you should think of the consequeces that could happen have. If you do have sex you should use protection such as condoms because they are easy to buy and easy to find in stores. They can help you prevent to get HIV and you should also stick to one sexual partner because that way you and your partner can both go get tested for HIV or any other issues and that way your both safe. For me I think is best to wait till you are ready and find the right person to share it with. That you both feel comfortable with each other and resepect each other and also both go get tested. Sex isn't something we all have to rush about because you'll have your whole life to do it.

Extra Tip
Organization (time management)

Something that you should know when you enter high school and that is organization! Trust me if you stay organize and everything is in order and in binder it makes things way much easier to find and that way you don't miss any homework or worksheets. Your teachers would also be very happy when they check your notebook for grading such as in living skill, history or any others.

Know your way around the Gunn

You should also get to know where your classes are and easy to find them because if you don't you can be late for classes and that is not good. You can find a friend or someone to show you around the campus that way you don't feel stupid when you get lost.
